Pleasantly untainted by what little tourism it has garnered, Favignana, the largest of the Aegadian islands, is often described as Italy’s best-kept vacation secret. There are only a handful of hotels on the island, the newest of which is Cas’almare, a boutique hideaway with just five rooms that promises an intimate stay. Perched on the edge of the coast overlooking the far-stretching Mediterranean Sea, Cas’almare is beyond picturesque, sandwiched between a private beach club and a short walk over the volcanic rock to the bustling markets at the island’s historic port. The hotel leaves no detail overlooked, featuring classical Devon & Devon Victorian-style baths, sumptuous Caravane furnishings and light installations from Issey Miyake-favorite, Ingo Maurer. As well as all the usual mod cons, Cas’almare arranges boat excursions to nearby islands Levanzo and Marettimo, and for the adventurous, bike hires to explore Favignana on two wheels. Prices start from €130 in low season.
