Actor and writer Alexa-Jeanne Dubé delivers a scintillating visual and auditory exploration of a couple’s bittersweet, passionate last ride. Their tectonic romance plays out in a split-screen montage with ASMR triggers that incite the viewer’s very core.

BKS was a challenge I set myself as I wanted to tell a story using the conventions of ASMR videos. This movement, which has fascinated me for years, is deeply strange and yet somehow familiar,” says Dubé, referencing the explosion of ASMR videos on YouTube with millions of views each.

Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a psychological phenomenon elicited by pin-sharp recordings of people eating, breathing, whispering, tapping their fingers ad infinitum. It is an involuntary response that bypasses any cerebral processes; sensual stimuli that many have described as a “brain orgasm.”

Abstract auditory stimuli and dulcet French tones accompany the tumultuous protagonists in the director’s exploration of communicating sensation and passion through a screen. “The naiveté ingrained in ASMR reminds me of childhood and I’m weirdly touched by that simplicity,” Dubé continues. “I wanted to tackle the concept of breakup sex and I found that the ASMR underground was a good way to explore that narrative. Enjoy!”
