Benjamin Millepied has already become the most famous ballet dancer since Baryshnikov, and he’s only just getting started. The lithe French choreographer, who has been the principal dancer of the New York Ballet for the last eight years, is about to leap into the mainstream. He's making his hotly anticipated film debut in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan (due out December 3), for which he also choreographed the movements of the movie's lead, Natalie Portman (now his girlfriend). When the Dutch National Ballet invited him to put on a piece, Millepied turned to his good friend and frequent collaborator Nico Muhly, a hugely accomplished and respected young composer who has scored numerous movies and worked with Philip Glass and Björk. Next he called up Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte to make costumes for the epic collaboration, aptly named One Thing Leads to Another.
