Former film agent Scott Sternberg has caught the imagination of tastemakers across the globe with his clothing line Band of Outsiders, which riffs on American classics with preppy-cool results. Launched in 2004, the brand made instant converts of young Hollywood, with actors like Jason Schwartzman, Max Minghella, Michelle Williams and Kirsten Dunst embracing the natty, tailored offerings of the initial eponymous line and its subsequent companion ranges Boy and Girl. Given the swelling ranks of celebrity brand ambassadors, it was no surprise that a who’s who turned out last month to toast the label’s move to its new Hollywood design studio, conceived to be a “utilitarian blank slate” by LA architects Frank Escher and Ravi Gune Wardena. Sternberg admits he “rarely mixes friends,” which is why NOWNESS seized the blue-moon opportunity to snag the designer’s own Polaroids of the Dewar's sponsored event (showcased right). The bold-faced names in attendance illustrated the brand’s far-reaching cultural appeal; notables from the worlds of fashion (model Erin Wasson), art (Raymond Pettibon), literature (Bret Easton Ellis) and film (newly anointed Spider-Man Andrew Garfield) all put in appearances at the soiree.
