Every year around Elvis’s birthday, hopeful Elvis tribute acts from across Europe flock to the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham,UK to compete for the prestigious title of European Champion.

In this observational documentary filmed over one weekend, director Amber Little captures the spirit and the chaos of the convention, the faded glamour of 1970s Las Vegas brought to the Midlands, while also exploring the deeper meaning behind this often trivialized subculture.

"I have always been fascinated by people who are searching for a life beyond the mundane," says Little, whose film won the 19–25 Short Film Award at this year's BFI Future Film Festival. "...The unique communities that form around shared eccentricities and how these worlds fit into mainstream culture."

Shooting at a time when Brexit loomed closer, the convention became a space for people to leave their politics at the door and come together for 72 hours of raw, nostalgic escapism. The conference room stage became a platform for men from all walks of life to leave their day jobs behind and express themselves through the power of 'the king'.

"As we became further immersed in this world, the importance of the community at its center took on new meaning," says the director. "What we found was a unique brotherhood at its core, and an unlikely story of togetherness amidst the divisive times we live in."
