The nocturnal world of Paris’ Rungis Market is brought to life in a new film by director Chris Roman. “The ambience is very particular, while everyone is sleeping outside,” says the Paris Vogue contributor, who was led around the sprawling, hangar-like space—home to the largest wholesale fresh food market in the world—by French chef Adeline Grattard during the small hours. Alongside her tea-expert husband Chi Wah Chan, Adeline runs Yam’Tcha, the highly lauded Franco-Cantonese restaurant that seamlessly fuses Gallic and Asian cuisine with a carefully curated tea menu. Previously chef at the Michelin-starred L’Astrance, Grattard, like most Parisian chefs and restaurateurs, knows the market that dates back to the 12th century intimately. “She only goes there for vegetables and flowers and fruits, and was super focused on what she looks for,” says the director after his first venture into putting food on film. “I’ve never seen food so fresh before.”
