More than 30 years after his death at the age of 27, New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s dramatic life and work continue to resonate through contemporary culture. However, before he rose to international stardom, Basquiat played in Gray, an experimental music outfit that he formed with friends in the late 70s, later incorporating a 16-year old Vincent Gallo. Recently Nicholas Taylor, one of the former members of Gray, unveiled his never-before-seen photographs of Basquiat performing with the band. These black and white images are a reminder of the excitement and energy of 80s New York, an unforgettable time in the history of contemporary art and music.
